I’ve interviewed more than 100 people in the last 5 months. Basically everyone told me that they feel overwhelmed by the amount of information and news overload out there. A lot of them told me they were just tuning everything out. Social media refugees. News monks.
It makes sense.
Think how hard and frustrating it is to read the latest news and understand what is happening. You have to fight clickbait. You have to fend off misinformation. Figure out echo chambers. It’s terrible. It’s emotionally draining. If you compare this experience with consuming — well, basically every other type of content — the difference it’s abysmal. Ok, reading the news will never be as fun as watching Netflix. But it should not be 100x worse. It can be a lot better.
And people want to stay updated with what is happening. With climate change. With local news regarding their city. With stuff happening in their professional field. But it’s so frustrating right now. So we asked ourselves, can A.I. help us make this experience better?
This is how we built Tailor. With Tailor, you can make sense of the noise: You just tell us what you are interested in, and we create a daily brief, customized for you. We do that by chaining a series of A.I. models — some of which we own, some of which we don’t. We then feed these models with the latest news, in any format. Tailor is able to figure out what matters to you, curate it, and then format it in different ways. We call it the weave.
A weave is composed of a podcast, a newsletter summary, and a blog post, all created by your Tailor A.I.
If I stoked your interest, you should sign up to Tailor! We are looking for beta users. And it’s free!
What follows is an example of the summary format of my Tailor today:
Microwave Imaging for Breast Cancer Screening
🧪 Researchers are using microwave imaging and convolutional neural networks for breast cancer screening with high accuracy in classifying profiles as healthy or diseased.
🚗 Machine learning algorithms, such as deep neural networks, are being used for parking space detection in smart parking systems, achieving high precision and recall rates.
🔒 Different authentication methods, including biometric and multi-factor methods, are used in virtual reality environments to ensure user privacy and security.
📊 Data preprocessing techniques like feature extraction and balancing are important in predictive maintenance studies to improve the performance of deep learning models.
AI Startups: Transforming Business Potential
📈 Over $15 billion has been invested in generative AI companies in the first half of 2023.
💡 Three criteria for evaluating innovative potential in AI: real-world implications, prolonged market impact, and sustainable implementation.
🔒 Ethical considerations like bias and explainability must be addressed when using generative AI models.
⏰ Gen AI is being used to optimize ads, refine drafts, collect data, enhance customer support, improve podcasting, and create music.
AI Replicating Robin Williams’ Voice
🌟 Robin Williams’ daughter, Zelda, expressed concern about the use of AI to recreate actors who cannot give their consent.
💔 Hollywood actors are on strike over issues including the unrestricted use of AI in the entertainment industry.
💼 The Writers Guild of America has reached a deal with producers, ending their strike, but SAG-AFTRA continues negotiations.
📞 Mental health resources are available for those in distress: Samaritans and National Suicide Prevention Helpline.
