As the Department of Defense (DoD) increasingly relies on software and data to drive mission readiness and operations, the need for cutting-edge, interoperable technology solutions has never been more critical. Data interoperability should be the cornerstone for informed decision-making and operational efficiency within the military.
Recognizing this imperative, Palantir has joined forces with Microsoft to fortify modern military operations with a commitment to seamless integration and collaboration. Our partnership underscores a shared commitment to supporting the Warfighter and providing mission support to the Army at large.
Army365, the largest single deployment of the Microsoft 365 product suite, offers an extensive set of capabilities, including Power BI for advanced data analytics and visualization, which now operates seamlessly with Palantir’s Vantage platform and other programs of record to provide comprehensive data integration and operational insights.
This unique collaboration harnesses the robust capabilities of both companies’ software solutions, advancing the Army’s mission through efficient information exchange in accordance with MOSA principles, fostering collaboration, and empowering data-driven decision-making throughout the organization. Together, we are charting a new era of military readiness and operational excellence by ensuring the Army’s Vantage platform remains versatile and integrated in the Army’s software ecosystem.
Powered by Palantir, the Army’s data-driven analytics platform for decision-making — Army Vantage — is one of the largest Foundry deployments to the US Government and helps to ensure optimal force readiness. In line with DoD’s Data Strategy and in compliance with controls set by the Army’s Chief Data Office (CDAO), Army Vantage integrates and refines millions of data points. These data points are then used to create Ontology-powered applications, supported by data products backed by authoritative systems. This enables thousands of Army operators — including senior leaders, Soldiers, staff and analytic communities — to utilize Vantage, transforming insights into actions and outcomes faster than any other system.
Microsoft Power BI, a perennial favorite among the Army 365 users, interoperates with Palantir’s Vantage platform to create a powerful synergy that significantly enhances user capabilities to better consume and make use of data. By providing real-time data visualization with seamless data integration and advanced analytics, Power BI promotes collaboration so that military personnel are well-equipped to make data-driven decisions, ultimately enhancing operational efficiency and mission success.
Ensuring that data systems are equipped with interoperability features is key to maximizing their utility and efficacy into the future. At the foundation of Palantir and Microsoft support for the Army is a shared commitment to interoperability and a model of open data sharing. Palantir platforms are designed with interoperability in mind, and Vantage is no exception. Vantage is built to facilitate easy data sharing through industry-standard data egress methods, such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) APIs. The API allows users to interact with datasets using the S3 API specification and clients that are compatible with S3 storage services. Microsoft’s dedication to secure and seamless integration through connectors, both in-cloud and on-premises, is embedded in the Power BI architecture, as well as API connectors to Microsoft Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse Analytics.
By maintaining open and extensible systems, both Palantir and Microsoft ensure that their platforms can adapt to evolving DoD requirements and continue to provide robust, interoperable solutions for data-driven decision-making.
Interoperability is a cornerstone for both Palantir and Microsoft, together we recognized an opportunity to go further when we saw the enthusiasm of Army users eager to leverage Power BI and Azure for visualizing their Vantage readiness data. The overwhelming user demand indicated that basic interoperability was not enough — we needed to create stronger, more robust connections for all Army users. An expanded Vantage to Power BI connector has rolled out, allowing users to continue to leverage all of the features of Vantage (e.g., File system navigation in Power BI, secure OAuth authentication and Third Party Application client credentials) while connecting via industry standard REST connection.
Today, the Power BI and Vantage data connection is leveraged by users more than 500k times each month, ensuring Army created Power BI dashboards are powered by up to date and critical Vantage data products.
By jointly investing in the development of seamless Vantage and Power BI connectors, we are ensuring that every unit can unlock the full potential of these powerful tools in a customizable, real-time manner.
This investment translates into several key benefits:
By enhancing these connectors, we are not just meeting baseline interoperability requirements but are elevating the Army’s ability to utilize all platforms at their disposal for data-driven insights for superior mission outcomes. This strategic investment underscores our commitment to providing the Army with the most advanced, interoperable, and effective tools available.
The interoperability between Vantage and Power BI represents a significant milestone in this partnership, paving the way for future advancements to further empower the Warfighter. With the recent integration of OpenAI into Vantage, users can now develop groundbreaking workflows leveraging OpenAI’s powerful capabilities. This new frontier will continue to expand the possibilities for Vantage users, equipping them with state-of-the-art technology to effectively accomplish their missions.
Palantir’s collaboration with Microsoft represents a powerful alliance of two industry-leading products working together to support the Army. This partnership underscores our ongoing commitment to enhancing interoperability and delivering superior data solutions, while ensuring that the Army receives maximum value from these integrated tools. The seamless integration of Power BI with Vantage’s robust data analytics empowers Warfighters to achieve their missions with unprecedented efficiency and precision.
We remain steadfast in our dedication to equipping the Warfighter with the best tools and data solutions available. Through advanced software solutions, we aim to continually improve Army readiness, ensuring that our forces are always prepared and capable of meeting the challenges ahead. This commitment to innovation and excellence will drive our efforts to provide the Army with the capabilities it needs to maintain operational superiority and mission success.
