What should I do if I come across self-harm related content on NightCafe?

When you come across a post, comment, or chat message discussing self-harm within the NightCafe community, it can be overwhelming, leaving you unsure of how to respond. However, you have the power to make a positive impact, and there are resources available to support both you and the individual you’re concerned about.

If you’re struggling with those thoughts or if you see someone else in immediate danger, please call a suicide hotline or local law enforcement right away.

Contact a Chat Host or NightCafe Moderator

If you come across someone discussing self-harm in a chatroom, don’t hesitate to reach out to your chat host. Inform them about the situation so they can manage the chat appropriately, offering support to the members involved. Comments and posts should be reported using our “report” function.

Provide Support Resources

Just like everyone else, those facing thoughts of self-harm want to feel heard and understood. Providing a supportive and non-judgmental ear often goes a long way. If you choose to respond, we suggest keeping the conversation public, and avoiding private messages when possible. Let them know you’re concerned about what they’re saying, express your care, and guide them towards resources that can offer the help they need.

Reporting Community Guideline Violations to NightCafe

At NightCafe, we count on our community members to help maintain a safe and positive space for everyone. If you notice any breaches of our Community Standards, don’t hesitate to report them through our Support system, accessible  here.

When we receive reports concerning self-harm threats, we take them seriously and thoroughly investigate. In critical situations, we recommend reaching out to law enforcement in addition to contacting us.

Please understand that, for privacy and security reasons, we are unable to share personal details like contact information or IP address with anyone other than the account holder. If someone’s safety is at immediate risk, please contact law enforcement.

Contacting Law Enforcement

In any urgent situation where you or another user is in trouble, please reach out to the authorities immediately, regardless of the limited details you might have. Law enforcement possesses the necessary resources and can work alongside NightCafe to provide the help needed.
